Design studios and architecture practices are judged by their own websites more harshly than any other client. If the site is cluttered, slow, or generic, a prospective client assumes the work will be too. The site has to demonstrate restraint: generous space, images that are allowed to be large, type that stays out of the way, and navigation that never competes with the portfolio.

Juniper & Vale Interiors is the project on this page, an interior design studio whose site shows the same discipline as its rooms. Projects are presented as full-width photography with minimal captions, the studio’s process is explained in a few plain paragraphs, and the inquiry path is quiet but always present. For this category, image handling is the real engineering problem: dozens of large photographs per project have to load quickly on a phone without being crushed by compression. The build serves exact-size images in modern formats so the work looks the way the photographer intended.
